We could just call this concert “Mono part 2.” I could really get used to seeing bands of vast talents and expansive sound in tiny, intimate little venues.
The opening act (well…the only one that we saw), Chin Up Chin Up, was a bag of turds. They were a small act, with small ambitions, and they [...]

funly morbid

It’s the end of October, work is light this weekend, and autumn is officially my mood. The time of year when the world is beautifully sad. My favorite season. (Though Atlanta doesn’t really cooperate. Many trees aren’t even orange, and there are few leaves on the ground.)
Today I’ve been in my standard late October musical [...]
Now it feels like autumn.

Despite what the weather is telling me, it now feels autumnal. The World Series is over, and I woke up with snow in my nose. (Not cocaine.) I’m surprised that I’m actually saying this, but I miss cold weather. It’s the end of October here, and it’s only been chilly a few days. Never cold [...]

Good karma

Apparently all this endless work and frustration of grad school has at least gotten me something.
Terry Gilliam’s “Tideland,” a film which, for reasons inexplicable to me, no one wants to distribute, is being sent across the U.S. in ‘touring prints.’
On November 3rd, one of the prints will be in Atlanta.

Just a quick couple of things.
1. The St. Louis Cardinals somehow managed to beat the New York Mets in the N.L. Championship series. Hooray for my Cardinals!
Time to go get creamed by the Tigers…
2. There are some gorgeous photos from Sigur Ros’s tour of Iceland to be found here. Oh, if only we could all [...]
“Marie Antoinette”

Went to a free preview screening tonight of Sofia Coppola’s new film.
I’m torn…and in a way which I don’t know that I’ve ever been about a film.
On the one hand, it’s a truly terrible film. Absolutely awful. It is slow, pompous, and shallow, and comes across as being entirely pointless – confused as to whether [...]

Did anyone hear the song that Sting played at the end of tonight’s episode of “Studio 60″? It was phenomenal. The other song that he played on the lute earlier in the show (the ‘rehearsal’) didn’t strike me at all, but that last one was really moving.
Made me want to go out and buy Sting cds.

I quit my job today. Woke up at seven in the morning, dead tired, and decided that I didn’t feel like being that tired for yet another week. So I quit.
I’m apparently not the type of person who can work multiple jobs (I’ve been somewhere near 70-80 hours per week for the last six weeks). [...]
Webster Edgerly – theatrical impresario

While avoiding finishing my mid-term exam in Japanese Lit and Film this afternoon, I searched a historical database of newspaper articles for Webster Edgerly and Ralstonism.
I do love learning new things about this man.
He was apparently Professor of Elocution and Oratory at the Martyn School in Washington D.C. It’s unclear whether he was hired or started [...]
