Hi, Mary,

Sorry for the delay in reply. It's rare for me even to sign into this blog lately. (That will hopefully change within a couple months.)

I'm envious that you live so near the original property. I've never managed to visit it. I was just in Washington D.C. last weekend, but forgot to try to seek out the site on which Martyn College once stood. (For all I know, part of it may still be there.)

My own Edgerly research has fallen into a standstill. Grad school eats up too much time for side projects I'm afraid. Someday I'll return to this project, if no one else has filled the gap by then.

Last I heard, Janet Six was still attempting to publish her work on Edgerly. It's been quite a while since I was in touch with her, but the manuscript used to go under the title "From Dogma to Dog Chow." It should be a fun book if it ever sees the light of day.

Thanks for reading the blog,

Hi there, I just came across your blog in my search of info on Webster Edgerly. I caught the Ralstonism bug last year when I bought a small cottage on his former property. So I get to see "Ralston Castle" everyday! Anyway, just wondering if you are still doing research or planning to write a biography on him? Your posts contained info I had never seen before even though I thought I knew quite a bit about him! Thanks,

Just teasing. To each his own, Alonso.

Cheers for that-

I did end up getting it- and as you say in your comprehensive review-

it has its moments and I certainly like it better than American Doll Posse.

So bloody long though...

Cheers again.

Personally, I think it's worth buying at a sale price, or perhaps snagging the six or seven best songs from itunes. You'll almost certainly be underwhelmed with the album as a whole, but there's some decent work in here...especially if you were a fan of the more contemplatively eerie work on Choirgirl.

Heya thanks for the comprehensive review...

I'm an old tori fan from way back but i'm feeling badly burned from how crap-tacular much of American Doll Posse was...

plus all the creepy eye work she has had lately is a bit off putting...

Do you think the album is worth buying? or will I be underwhellmed?

Cheers,

Von.

Good catch on the "layback" / "baby" thing. I was far too underwhelmed with the delivery to bother double checking my ears. Doesn't really improve the song, as the vocal work is still wretched, but at least it's not the word 'baby,' I guess. :-)

As for Police Me, I still have to stick to my guns and say that the fact that Fat Slut is on an album, that means she thinks it's a song. And in that case, it is the single biggest affront to humanity ever unleashed by someone with musical skills.

The album has both grown on me and grown more underwhelming. I find that I'm already a bit bored of it, though the lows don't seem as low as they did initially. Perhaps that's because the highs aren't (and never seemed) as high as is typical for her. But, then again, tonally it doesn't seem to have been an attempt at pop success, so perhaps ambivalence is the appropriate reaction.

Police Me is the worst Tori Amos song ever. EVER EVER.

BTW....in Strong Black Vine, it's "layback" not "baby".
