1. I hate the end of this semester. Workshopping other people’s papers is the closest thing one can get to hell on earth. And this Godard /Barthes paper, due in ten days, sure would be easier if I had any ideas or any interest in it whatsoever.

2. My plane tickets to California for the wedding are fixed.

3. Some genius on the ESPN message boards just denigrated the Japanese baseball league (surprise…) with the following bit of brilliance. “Shinjo was like the Barry Bonds or Albert Pujols of Japan.” And then, when he was called on it, he ‘defended’ himself with the fact that Shinjo had won a J-League World Series MVP award.
I’m generally intolerant of stupidity to begin with, but stupidity that refuses to fact check makes me want to seek out weaponry. Shinjo was anything but the Barry Bonds of Japan. He’d’ve been lucky to have been considered the Juan Encarnacion of Japan. And…it sure is a good thing no personages of less talent than Barry Bonds and Albert Pujols have ever won WS MVPs in the Majors. Wait…what’s that you say? David Eckstein won last year? Oh…my bad… I guess a WS MVP doesn’t say anything about talent level…
Jack ass.

4. Tori’s entire new album is streaming on her myspace page right now. I’m disappointed. It’s ok, but nothing special. There’s lots of filler, and I’ve never been a fan of ‘unartistic’ (read: in-your-face) political statements in music.
Some of it’s good though. Of course…

5. Who wants to go to work for me today?
Wow, I’ve never workshopped, or for that matter read, a fellow grad student’s seminar paper. Not de rigueur here.
It’s not really common here either. It’s just that an aspect of the Historiography course was ‘advice on getting published.’
I’m really glad this isn’t a thing we do all the time. It is really really terribly painful having to talk about another person’s 25 page paper for 45 minutes.
