From a forward a friend sent me called “Eerie,” in which all kinds of numerological coincidences about September 11th are listed.  (Such as 9+1+1 = 11 and “New York City” has 11 letters.)

Near the end, as though this were the real clincher, is this old chestnut:

“The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book

“For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace.”

That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran.”

This is complete rubbish.  I wrote an in depth refutation of it a number of years ago.  But, despite its obvious falsehood, it still exists.

So here is the refutation again:

The Koran is not a prognosticating text.  This supposed Koran section is written as though the prophet were Nostradamus.  The Koran is actually a much more bland text, full of exhortations of the right way to live, ‘legalities’ (such as how to get a divorce), and descriptions of heaven.  Anyone who has even glanced at the Koran would know how out of place a passage like this would be.

The actual ninth chapter of the Koran is on “Repentance.”  Verse 11 reads as follows:

“But (even so), if they repent, establish regular prayers, and practice regular charity,- they are your brethren in Faith: (thus) do we explain the Signs in detail, for those who understand.”

The actual passage is not only factually and stylistically different, it is, in fact, making exactly the opposite point to the fabricated passage.  The ‘up with America’ version is making a claim that when one belief system ‘cleanses’ a country, it is for the greater good.  The actual passage is about “brotherhood,” despite differences.

Just like the politics involved, the continued attempt at appealing to religion to justify the ‘war on terror’ is based on blatant lies.
